STATE and LOCAL
Connecticut Ancestry Society, Inc.
Founded in 1954 as the Stamford Genealogical Society -- the oldest genealogical society in Connecticut. Now called Connecticut Ancestry Society, Inc., CAS publishes a quarterly journal, conducts workshops, and provides membership benefits.
Connecticut State Library - History and Genealogy Unit
The CSL has excellent sources for CT genealogy research including military, cemetery, probate, land, and vital records; church and bible records; passenger lists and naturalization records; town histories and family genealogies; newspapers and city directories; photographs; biographical and vertical files; subject guides and selected bibliographies; and much more.
Connecticut Society of Genealogists
CSG - non-profit organization promotes genealogical research and publication, attempts to maintain and elevate genealogical standards and to provide instructional and educational programs and publications.
Publishes The Connecticut Nutmegger, which contains original articles relevant to New England genealogy, Connecticut vital records, CSGs Ancestry Service, and reviews of genealogical books. Membership benefits.
Fairfield Museum and History Center
Bridgeport and Fairfield share more than just a town border. Genealogists and researchers alike will find many "cross-over" items of interest at the FMHC. Maintains a research library and archives as well as a museum with changing exhibitions. FMHC offers educational programs and lectures throughout the year. Book Shop.
Godfrey Memorial Library - Middletown, CT
Holds over
200,000 books and periodicals in its collection including: state and local histories, international resources, family histories, biographies, records by religious organizations, church records, funeral records, cemetery records, military records, maps, etc. Publishes the American Genealogical and Biographical Index (AGBI),
a 226 volume master index containing approximately 4 million names from over 800 genealogically related research books including many records from the Boston Transcript.
Stratford Historical Society
Stratford and Bridgeport share a long history together. Visit the SHS for information on area families, business and commerce, land management issues, cemeteries, buildings, activities on Long Island Sound
and more! SHS sells several publications on local history.
