- Bridgeport Rocks Because Bridgeport Reads! The mission of this project is to encourage all students in Grades Pre-K thru 12 to become lifelong readers and writers.
- Awards for the Best Books for Young People The award is named after Pura Belpré, the first Latina librarian at the New York Public Library.
- For excellence in works by Latino/a authors and illustrators The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of nineteenth-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott.
